Boy George Reflects on Regretful Comments About Liam Payne Before His Passing

Boy George recently expressed regret over a comment he made about Liam Payne before the singer’s tragic death. Speaking on the November 21 episode of the High Performance podcast, the Culture Club frontman recalled posting a critical remark about Payne online, saying, “He’s off his nut,” which he now deems insensitive.

Reflecting on the loss, George, 63, shared how deeply it affected him, comparing his feelings to the grief he experienced after Amy Winehouse's passing. Payne, known as a member of One Direction, died on October 16 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.

George was particularly moved by seeing Payne’s father, Geoff, in Argentina, assisting with the investigation and ensuring his son’s body was returned to the U.K. George criticized online comments suggesting his sympathy was superficial, emphasizing his genuine sorrow for Payne’s family and loved ones.

Payne’s private funeral in Amersham, England, on November 20, brought together his former bandmates—Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson—for the first time since Zayn's departure from One Direction in 2015. The ceremony was also attended by Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, his ex Cheryl Cole, and other celebrities, including Simon Cowell and James Corden.

In connection with Payne’s death, Buenos Aires prosecutors have charged three individuals for abandonment leading to death and narcotics-related offenses. One of the accused, Braian Nahuel Paiz, has vowed full cooperation with authorities, stating his intent to contribute all relevant evidence to the investigation.

This tragic loss has reverberated worldwide, leaving fans and loved ones grieving the untimely end of a talented artist.
